Hidalgo, Texas is where I was raised. A very small border town at the very tip of texas. The Rio Grande Valley is what some of you might know it by. Not much to do out there, but drive out 45 minutes to go to the beach (South Padre Island).

I started dancing at 16.  I was fortunate that my high school offered it as an elective.  I went in thinking I'd just learn hip hop, but my instructor made us learn ballet, jazz, modern, and how to choreograph along with hip hop.  I still visit once a year to go teach a class and talk about my experience as a student.

Weekly Affirmation: Finding Stillness

“Stillness comes from within you; it doesn’t come from outside you.”

-Eckhart Tolle

The world has become a race to transport information, increase productivity, and travel from place to place. There’s always an errand or project going on. I find that practicing stillness is sometimes the hardest to accomplish, especially with so much caffeine helping me operate!

A lot of people live in this reality of constant multitasking. Balance in life is key. With this weekly affirmation, it reminds me to be still and centered while all of the chaos is happening around me. Stillness can be physical practices such as yoga, meditation, stretching, a peaceful walk, and even watching a sunrise or sunset. The main one I forget to do is mindful breathing through the day.

More than anything else, I envy the people who have days who chill out with a good book, a bubble bath, and a glass of wine. Finding these moments slow down life, allows people to live out their lives.

January 5th, 2017 was one for the books!

Dance Austin Studio invited Yanis Marshall to teach Street Jazz and Heels Master Classes last night, and Austin dancers showcased their amazing talent and individuality through the bold and alluring choreography. Before Yanis arrived, the lobby and convention room at Red Oak Ballroom were bursting with energy. Dancers received mini DAS tote bags with some pamphlets about upcoming performance opportunities as well as this Saturday’s Free Day of Dance with Dance Austin Studio. Chi Chi Randolph, DAS Director, got onto the stage to get the crowd excited for his arrival. Dancers warmed themselves up to a dance playlist, setting the night’s tone.

Once Yanis got there, the warm-up began for Street Jazz as dancers focused in on their mind and body. The room swayed in unison as everyone tried picking up the steps, and observers were literally dancing in their seats with Britney Spears’ new single “Slumber Party” playing.

Heels is the unique style the world...

December 29, 2016

The New Year at Dance Austin Studio is bringing in lots of new adult dance classes with new instructors, styles, and levels!

This year, we're excited to bring more Guest Master Class instructors! We're kicking off the best year yet with our first guest, Yanis Marshall on January 5th, 2017 teaching both Street Jazz and Heels!

Our master classes are growing, and we're excited to grow artistically and athletically!

I've wanted to burst out and tell the world all about the new classes in 2017. Now that they're finally posted on our DAS website, I can tell everybody about it! Blabbing on our new DAS blog was my second thought to start sharing. The first was telling people on Facebook because well... it's the Social Media Age and all the rage. After creating a survey for our students to tell us what they wanted to see in 2017, we put together an incredible schedule with your response levels. Lyrical Hip Hop won the most popular vote!
