Instructor Spotlight: Talisa Davis

September 1, 2017

Talisa is not only a youth instructor for Hip Hop & Contemporary Modern, but she is also the Studio Assistant Director!

1. When did you start dancing?
-Young enough to go on stage and just wave at my family. So technically, 13 years old.

2. What is your favorite thing to do in Austin?
-Connecting with nature & finding hidden gems in this city...and paddle boarding!

3. Hometown?
-Long Island, NY

4. Who is your inspiration?
-Anyone who follows their heart and wants to make a positive & active change for themselves & others, no matter how minor it may seem. It's something you can see & I’m inspired by that in another person's eyes.

5. What are some of your non-dancing hobbies?
-Writing, yoga, gym, reading, eating vegan food & hanging out with awesome people.

6. What is your favorite dance-related experience?
-Performing is my first love, so any opportunity to do this has been an absolute dream. I’d have to say dancing for the MTV Woodies alongside Starley & Rick Ross stands out the most. It was such an absolute high!

7. Favorite Show/Movie/Book (whatever you'd like to share):
Movie: More recently - Get Out (genius!)
Book: Anything by Marianne Williamson- the only author I actively follow.

8. Fun fact about you?
-I limit the time I spend on social media...with a timer...during specific times of days.(refuse to be consumed by it.)

9. You are taking a dance class - what style can we find you in first?
-I like to dabble! But what I teach is what I've trained in, so those are my comfort classes. (Hip Hop & Modern)

10. Favorite Quote and why?
-"Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars- you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should”

This is my favorite quote because we are no less & no more special than anyone else.  We love admiring sunsets, but what separates us from the sky? If we see ourselves this way, we are more likely to treat others the same way, and it domino effects into the rest of the world.
